NEIGHBORHOODS OF CAPE MAY

Cape May is full of unique neighborhoods and sections, each with their own characteristics and qualities. When you are searching for a vacation rental, or purchasing a beach house for sale, it is important to identify what lifestyle and attributes you are looking for. Are you wanting to “get away from it all” and would love Cape May Point, or would you prefer to be within walking distance of the center of Cape May’s Washington Street Mall and its restaurants? Below is a list of the sections of our wonderful town. While there are links to a map for each section, give one of our agents a call. We know each nook and cranny of this special town we love to call home and are excited to help you find your favorite spot!!

Cape May’s Beachfront
Head into Cape May and follow signs for the Beaches, to the right you will head toward the Cove and to the left you will head to Poverty Beach.  The beachfront of Cape May is spectacular, with our mile long Promenade centered among incredible homes and restaurants.   Many guest house, B&B’s and vacation rentals are right on Beach Avenue and offer incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean.  Looking for your own beachfront townhouse or home?  We can help!  Toward the east end of Beach Avenue, you will find some large historic homes nestled in and around some newer custom-built homes that are stunning.  You will soon get the salt air in your lungs, and the sand in your shoes, and will quickly realize you just won’t ever want to leave!

The Cove
The Cove is at the end of Beach Avenue where South Cape May used to be. There is an interesting history of a town that used to be here in the late 1800’s. Centered between Cape May and Cape May Point the cove provides views of the Cape May Lighthouse and the nature of Cape May Point Beach Park. From Sunset Blvd. to Perry Street, down to 2nd Avenue, there are several homes that have interesting histories, along with Cape May vacation rentals, guest homes and hotels. This is a great family beach as the waves roll in gently, most of the time and the dolphins love to surf here.  Watch the piping plovers, a protected bird, nest and care for their young.  The locals love to surf this beach! It’s a very special area.

Poverty Beach
This is the area from Pittsburgh east to the beach. This section is on the opposite end of Beach Avenue from the Cove. You will find the Beach Club of Cape May, Christian Admiral Estates, views of the Atlantic Ocean, and may even see some of the US Coast Guard units in training as they jog in unison through the streets. This is also a surfer’s favorite spot and you will find many folks enjoying the sunrise and coffee in the mornings. There is less traffic on this end & there aren’t parking meters, a local’s secret!

Center of Town, Cape May

Cape May’s town center is focused on its rich history and is also full of fantastic boutiques and exceptional restaurants. Many spectacular historical homes and vacation rentals are within walking distance, allowing for a visit full of activity and fun!  From Broadway to Madison, this section of Cape May is a great area to visit and to live.  Cape May’s beaches are also within walking distance of the center of town, so you truly get the best of all things Cape May!

Frog Hollow
Frog Hollow is a very special section of Cape May. A local secret, Frog Hollow includes some of the most spectacular homes on the Island of Cape May. Spanning from Kearney Street to Columbia Avenue, this section is a bit tricky to navigate with its one-way streets and alleyways, which add to is secluded allure for homes in Cape May! With the Victorian vacation rentals, lovely guest homes and several stately private homes, Frog Hollow is quite a find!  At one time in Cape May’s history this area attracted a few frogs in its slightly low-lying streets, and the name “Frog Hollow” came to be!

Village Green
The section called “Village Green” at the end of Ohio Ave and moving toward Washington street was developed as perfect spot to retire or have affordable seashore getaway.  There are single family homes, twins, and quads, each offering a great vacation place to enjoy Cape May!  You can hear the ocean waves and feel the ocean breeze through every window of this neighborhood.  Lots of opportunity to be a resident of Cape May, still over the bridge and close to the center of town and Cape May’s beaches.

Cape May Harbor
From Osprey Landing, Yacht Avenue to Harbor Cove to Delaware Avenue, Cape May’s Harbor offers incredible views, boating, fishing and more!  Many townhomes and single family homes offer boat slips and water access.  Cape May has one of the best inlets along the east coast and you can enjoy the summertime boating visitors from all over the world!  Cape May’s Yacht Club and the Nature Center of Cape May are special additions to this area. Also, the United States Coast Guard east coast training center is nearby. The blue herons and white egrets fly by as the sun sets. Spectacular!

West Cape May
This is a wonderful area just east of Broadway. West Cape May is a bit more rural than downtown Cape May, but is still close enough to walk or bike into town. Surrounded by farmland, the lots are typically larger and the streets are less busy which gives you that feeling of quiet country living. The borough of West Cape May is very active with events like the Lima Bean Festival, the Strawberry Festival, many antique shows and a weekly Farmer’s Market in season. You will find some historical homes along with new construction in this area.

Cape May Point
If you have never taken a drive down Sunset Drive, you have missed the Cape May lighthouse, the famous sunken ship, Lake Lily and some of the most incredible beach homes in a secluded setting you will find on the east coast.  Cape May Point brings a peaceful approach to living in Cape May. Quiet beaches, rustic trees, historical homes and seashore’s best surround this little community by the sea. Vacation rentals, quiet getaways, and opportunities for owning your own beach home in Cape May Point.
